Leopard Print: Don’t Make it Tacky!

Animal print is coming back, stronger than ever, for Fall 2018.It all started with the famous $180 The Naomi skirt from Realisation Par. And after that it was a domino effect. Animal print became Fall’s hottest trend. (Even WhoWhatWear came with a much more affordable version of the skirt which you can check out here).

I’ve always been a fan of leopard print, and while I know a lot of people out there are not, I do still believe there is a very fine line between tacky and trendy.  Which, I believe that people who don’t like leopard print is most likely because they relate it to being the opposite of cool and classy. (Correct me if I’m wrong).

How to style leopard print and not look tacky:

I believe that when it comes to leopard print, a simple detail such as the wrong kind of jewelry, can throw off your outfit. It’s important to style it with simple pieces.

For daytime: My favorite way is with jeans. And maybe some really simple shoes, nothing too crazy. Throw in a contemporary piece, in my case, it’s the straw bag.

For nighttime: I would probably do all black everything, even accessories, and make sure that the animal print piece is the only “crazy” aspect of my outfit, keeping the rest minimal. Natural hair, natural makeup.

I think makeup plays a BIG role in making animal print tacky. Imagine leopard print plus red lips? I just immediately think of Janice from friends, which is exactly what we don’t want to look like.

Remember, always keep it simple. If you’re asking yourself “is this too much?” when you’re wearing animal print… the answer is always YES!

*My top is thrifted from Goodwill. I recommend that you hit up some second hand stores first if you don’t want to spend too much money. You are always going to find a leopard print shirt there. I found about 3-4 options when I went to Goodwill.
